Interview with Elijah Kang’ara, Star Café Ltd.

“We realized that we need to directly work with farmers in 2008, when Star Cafe was rebranded, and all sub-brands were to be under Star Cafe. Star Cafe Premium, Star Cafe Gold, Star Cafe World Mountain. We were launching new high premium brands. And the only way to guarantee the quality was to work directly with farmers. So we started doing this in 2008″

Elijah Kang’ara, general manager of Star café ltd., talked to us about his company’s experiences in working with smallholders. In this interview he shares some of the advantages and bottlenecks and also gives his point of view on subsidized interventions.
